From The Dugout

Feb 13th 2017 11:48am

Our young men picked up their first championship last Saturday. The United nine proved sufficient for back-to-back-to-back wins in "The Freeze" tournament in San Antonio, scoring 23 runs on as many hits, while our pitching & defense kept our opponents to just 15.

Singles, Doubles & Triples

United's offensive power was led by Brayton Staedtler who picked up five hits, including a double in each game. Fernando Ramirez had four hits with a pair of doubles. Shepherd Findley, Robert Harter, and Wyatt Row belted out three hits each, while Nathan Rodriguez & Nathan White got two each, and Rayder Row smacked his first triple!

Innings, Strikeouts & Walks

Colton Moore picked up two wins in four innings on the bump for United, scattering six hits, while striking out four and walking three. Wyatt handled the majority of the work in the circle, limiting his opposition to three hits in five innings, including four strikeouts and walks. Shepherd notched another win for United in his two innings, giving up three hits and two walks, and striking out one. Brayton was on the hill for the remaining innings, striking out three, while surrendering three hits and four walks.

Bright Future

When you consider that our boys have only been together since September... and they're already winning tourneys... that really says a lot: they're United! Our hitting & pitching has given us the opportunity to win nearly every game, and our defense is steadily improving. Expect these fellas to be in the running regularly from now on.

To learn, you must love discipline; only the stupid hate correction. -Proverbs 12.1 [my translation]

With the onset of Spring & Little League, most of the boys will get two or three times more work in. Coach Matt is on the LL board. He will be a big help in coordinating United & LL schedules as we continue our one practice per week & one tournament per month, as well as the occasional Mason Matchup.

As always, I'm grateful to be a part of this United family. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please use the form below to post your feedback.
